My upbringing

Although I was born in Windsor, ON, Strathroy has been my home since I was two years old. Even though I am thousands of kilometres away from my hometown, family has continued to be very central in my journey. Though I am only able to visit every few months, we have made a habit of having a facetime call every week.

In school, I was able to make a ton of great friends and I remember my time in elementary and high school fondly. I was also identified as gifted in grade 4, particularly with math. The test was not made to test performance in a traditional sense, but rather thought process. It showed that I am a creative problem solver and like to think outside of the box.

My time in university

I have been lucky to study at Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business since 2022. Not only is the school’s Business department ranked in Canada’s top 10, but the change in geography has provided tons of opportunity as well.

Being located in the Vancouver area and living independently for the first time was certainly an adjustment, however, I was pleasantly surprised how little turbulence I felt shifting to a completely different environment.

Although nice weather was certainly a factor, the main reason I decided to study in BC was to meet new people and broaden my horizons. Through tutoring English to international students at my school’s library, joining a Japanese archery club, or even just meeting classmates and making friends from around the world, I am happy to say that my goal was met.

On the academic side, although my concentrations (majors) have been in Marketing and International Business, I have taken a very wide range of courses that have set me up well personally and professionally for life beyond university. The reason I was able to graduate after only three years is because I took heavy course loads every semester. SFU is well known for having a rigorous curriculum, so much so that only 34% of students are able to graduate within four years. A typical schedule at SFU includes 3-4 courses per semester (9-13 units), however I would take 5-6 courses per semester (15-18 units). Although exam season was certainly challenging, my time management and information rentention skills have improved massively. By my final year, I was able to take a 17 unit semester and finish that term with a GPA of 3.19 which I am very proud of.
